Journalist • Editor • Memoirist

I have an appetite for stories. I devour big helpings of stories for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner, and I still want more. I love to tell my stories, and I love to hear yours.

. Many stories come to me through Bay Weekly, the news and feature weekly my journalist family created back in 1993. For 23 years now, we’ve been discovering and sharing the stories of Chesapeake Country while edging readers toward sustainable ways of living with the precious resources of land and water that define us.

.

Before creating Bay Weekly, I taught writing and editing for many, many years — at University of Maryland University College, the University of Illinois at Springfield, St. Louis University, Purdue University and in community colleges, for which I have special affection.

At an age when postponement is no longer a possibility, I’m writing two books, both memoirs based in family history: Stories I Want My Grandchildren to Know; and Miss Cora Smith’s Last History Lesson.

Over the years, I’ve written for national, regional, state and local magazines and newspapers, including The Washington Post, Baltimore Sun and St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I’ve also edited many books, including four (two nonfiction; two fiction) by my journalist husband Bill Lambrecht, former D.C. Bureau chief of the St. Louis-Post Dispatch, now an investigative reporter with Hearst newspapers. Years ago, I read my way to two degrees, in stories, at St. Louis University.
